This week our teacher assigned a task to us to go to the Smithsonian website and answer questions about earth.
Inner earth:
1)Our earth has an inner ,outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle and crust.
The inner earth is hot and it flows and churns. In the mantle, flowing rocks move plates and in the outer core churning dynamo liquid generates gravity.
Earth accreted, then melted completely and layers began to form.
*Dense molten iron sank and created the core.
*Lighter silicate lquid rose and cooled, forming mantle.
*Later, partial melting of the mantle produced crust - ap rocess that continues today.
The unreachable frontier:
Chondrites are meteorites composed of the solar systems original dust.
These seven elements make up 97% ( by weight) of both chondrites and the earth. But compared to chondrites, earths crust and mantle is low in iron, the iron must be in the core.
*I think that meteorites tell us that there are other planets like ours.
Rocks
1) I think that periodites tell us how hot the earth is and how much pressure it is putting down on the rock.
Diamonds:
They grow under the earths crust 150 km under ground while being heated and pressed by the earth (no wonder they are so strong) and magma at the end spews them out.
